Good Morning,

First, our thanks to everyone who has taken advantage of the one-time $50 FlyBy offer to add wide format to their Morning Flight tool set. The demand for it turned out to be as impressive as you told us it would be. If you're still on the fence, the offer remains open until May 31. As outlined in our January FlyBy, updating to V17 will also get you tiered click charges and RISO and Xante presses as part of the bargain.

We're now on V17.3. The latest version includes a number of improvements and two bug fixes, both relating to wide format in the Gold and Pixelblitz editions. V17 owners can download V17.3 at no cost, using the previous update link. If you need help downloading without being charged, please email us and we'll make it happen.

With business software it's generally a good idea to run with the most up-to-date version, especially when that version doesn't come with a price tag. You should definitely update your V17 Morning Flight edition if you're offering wide format and are using QuickBooks classes to manage it. In V17.3, wide format was given a class of its own.

The Click Charge Enigma

One of the side effects of tiered click charges is that the price for a higher quantity can sometimes be less than that of a slightly lower one. This only becomes a problem when two or more quantities are quoted side by side and the lower quantity is approaching the break point (the lower click rate) of the higher quantity, as evidenced in the last line of the graphic.

Theoretically, the solution is simple: Install an infinite number of click rates. But that's infinite, as in "infinity." Back on earth, what we hope will work is to have Morning Flight first alert you to the problem when it manifests itself, then keep elevating the higher quantities until the issue disappears, at which point you can either accept or decline the new quantity set. The assumption will be that the lowest quantity is what the customer originally asked you to quote on. That quantity will stay as is.

We'll keep you informed. In the meantime, any suggestions you can share would be much appreciated.

New Phone Numbers

On a different note, the voice mail part of our phone system had become dated. We rely on voice-mail quite a bit because so many Morning Flight users live abroad.

A few months ago we installed a state-of-the-art Polycom VoIP system. Setting it up should have been an afternoon's work but took longer than any of us had anticipated. A lot longer. I had no idea instruction manuals for state-of-the-art jibber jabber now fill hundreds of pages.
